MICROBIOTA, MICROFLORA OR MICROBIOME?

The gut microbiota provides benefits to the host by:

  • production of short-chain fatty acids and vitamins,
  • protection against pathogenic bacteria (with which it competes
    for habitat),
  • stimulation of the immune system,
  • impact on intestinal development.

DIET AND INTESTINAL MICROBIOTA

Food is a major factor in shaping the gut microbiota. It is primarily influenced
by the pre- and probiotics in the diet

Do you know the difference between a prebiotic, a probiotic and a synbiotic?

Prebiotics are substances that stimulate the development of normal gastrointestinal bacterial flora and at the same time inhibit the proliferation of pathogenic microflora. These include oligosaccharides (FOS: inulin, lactulose, oligofructose; MOS: mannan-oligosaccharides; GOS: galacto-oligosaccharides, beta-glucans). Prebiotics undergo bacterial fermentation in the large intestine, and this lowers the pH in the digestive tract. They improve digestion and reduce toxins in the body. They provide nourishment for beneficial intestinal microflora and prevent constipation. Prebiotics are often said to be food for good bacteria.

Probiotics are strains of bacteria that are beneficial to your health. Most settle in the dog’s digestive tract, others have a beneficial effect on the environment in the gut,
creating the perfect conditions for beneficial microflora to settle and multiply.

A synbiotic is a combination of a pre- and a probiotic in one product. That is, both
the beneficial bacteria and the food for them

administration of probiotics

Probiotics can be administered in two ways:

periodically

usually given as a medicine or supplement)

permanently

(administered with the food throughout the whole year)

  • during periods of decreased immunity, e.g. in pregnancy, during lactation, after major surgery,
  • during and after antibiotic therapy,
  • when you change the diet,
  • before, during and after a trip involving a change in microflora, such as going
    on vacation, to a dog show or competition;

This method is used by giving the dog, for example, strains of bacteria that support beneficial microflora and microflora itself

MEET OUR HIDDEN WEAPON!

Research on Bacillus subtilis bacteria has been ongoing since the early 20th century and since the 1980s they have been focused on the effects of these bacteria on animal body. The uniqueness of this strain lies in the formation of very durable spores resistant to environmental conditions (including high temperature and pressure). The spores overcome the unfavourable environment for bacteria in the dog’s stomach and small intestine, where there is a very low pH (1-2 pH) and bile acid salts that are harmful to most bacteria. The Bacillus subtilis spores then germinate in the intestines, strengthening the beneficial intestinal flora.

They do this in several ways:

  • producing and maintaining a proper balance of intestinal flora by increasing beneficial bacteria and inhibiting the growth of harmful intestinal bacteria,
  • producing powerful protein-degrading enzymes and starch-degrading enzymes,
  • producing vitamins from B group.

SAFETY OF BACILLUS SUBTILIS

Scientific research and the European Union commission confirm that Bacillus subtilis C-3102 is a completely safe probiotic:

it does not produce toxins or other virulence factors (i.e. the production of chemicals or various mechanisms helping bacteria with attacking the host)

it does not produce antibiotic substances that would conflict with other human or animal antibiotics and does not contribute to the development of genetic resistance to antibiotics

it is sensitive to all antibiotics as defined by EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) and is not genetically modified
